The Pyrates, Ch. 1

On to a new adventure in a completely different genre! The Pyrates was written by the late George MacDonald Fraser and published in 1983. Fraser is best-known for his series of comic historical novels based on the character of Harry Flashman. Fraser also wrote screenplays, including The Three Musketeers (1973) and the James Bond flick, Octopussy (1983).

From the dust jacket blurb for The Pyrates, “…a different — and gloriously funny — new novel: the ultimate historical adventure epic that toasts every great pirate yarn and Hollywood costume drama we’ve all thrilled to.”

Chapter the First introduces the main characters, Captain Benjamin Avery of the King’s Navy, and Colonel Thomas Blood (cashiered) who once came “within an ace of stealing the Crown Jewels.”

Lots o’ pirate action in store, too, by the Powers! So let’s begin. Please leave a comment below!
