This is a cracking good book! Author Erik Larson warns in “A Note to Readers”:
Although at times it may appear to be otherwise, this is a work of nonfiction… If some of what follows challenges what you have come to believe about Churchill and this era, may I just say that history is a lively abode, full of surprises.
We’ll start off with Larson’s “Note to Readers,” his prologue, and the first Chapter. I hope I do this great book justice.

Listening for a second time. I am grateful for the detail Larson puts into the story, history has never been a subject I retain. Hearing it with your voice Steve makes it easier to absorb.
That’s very kind of you, Jane. Larson is just about the most appealing historian I’ve ever read. I love Paul Johnson, Bruce Catton, and Barbara Tuchman, to name a few. But Larson writes like a novelist with that little bit of cliff-hanger every chapter. I’m glad you’re enjoying it.
